- With fall just around the corner, here are some of my favorite and helpful home preparation tips to help you be ready for the upcoming season. Following these tips will ensure everything continues running well into the colder months. All right, number one, inspect your gutters. This time of year it is important to clean and inspect your gutters, replace them if needed, to ensure they are working properly as the rain and snow comes. If they are clogged or damaged, it could result in a flooded inside and also a damaged exterior, so don't wait. Next, check for drafts. In the fall and winter, many homeowners are spending lots of money heating their homes due to drafts, but it doesn't need to be this way. Do a simple check on all exterior doors and windows to confirm they are properly sealed. To do this, simply close a door or window on a strip of paper. If the paper slides easily, you need to update your weather stripping. Next, have your furnace inspected. Change the filters, okay? Next, don't forget to replace your smoke detectors batteries and your carbon monoxide detector batteries as well. And finally, if you've got any exterior taps, close them. Blow out sprinkler lines or pool lines. That's it for now. Who you work with matters.
